Well, this was an adage certainly put to the test this past weekend! Michael, Zach and I went to Charlotte to begin our house hunt. We had planned to hit several areas in the school districts we like but weren’t prepared to make an offer.
The universe had different plans! We’re under contract on a gorgeous house on a gorgeous piece of property.
Our house here in Colorado isn’t even on the market yet so we are having to speed up the process by about a month. The inside is ready because I’ve been consistently preparing for the move and now Michael is in Charlotte for a few more days until he leaves for Germany on Wednesday for a month. We did a lot of work to get ready for his absence.
I love, love, love, my new house. Here’s a pic of the outside.
It sits on 2.1 acres on the Union/Mecklenburg County line. Like RIGHT on the county line — 1.78 acres (including the house) are in Union County and .32 are in Mecklenburg. Zach will go to Providence High School, which is part of Weddington Schools. It’s in a neighborhood called Providence Woods at the end of a private cul-de-sac.
I’ll have lots of room for my garden. And we’re allowed to have horses! Maybe donkeys too. Jeremy is checking into that for me. Although I may not yet be in my “Donkey Years” — the years where I’m prepared to stay at home and tend to the little fella. For now, I’ve got a serious case of wanderlust. Michael is thinking that he wants to put in a pool. We’ve certainly got the space for it.
While in the Carolinas we stayed with my cousin Cheryl and her family. They live in Tega Cay, SC on Lake Wylie and have a beautiful house with water access and a boat dock in their back yard. We had fun catching up. The boys loved Zach (Jack to Cooper) and they had fun fishing and making S’mores.
While there, we hit the US National Whitewater Center. Zach did some mountain biking there and has trail rash to prove it. Then the kids all did an obstacle course. We had lunch and watched the rafters and kayakers maneuver the rapids. It will definitely be someplace that we frequent.
We had beautiful weather while we were there. Luckily, when we landed back in Denver today, the weather was equally nice. Sunny and 70 today.
Now, if I could just think about other important things besides how I will decorate my new house…
